Matthew Coleman
Matthew lives with his parents and brother in Ridgeway, Virginia and is a graduate of Magna Vista High School in Ridgeway. Matthew’s father , Jimmy Lee Coleman was a market manager at a Food Lion in Mount Airy in 2002 when he was electrocuted, resulting in a number of permanent injuries, including cognitive difficulties. Matthew was only 16 when his father was injured and began a part time job to help with the family finances. In High School, he was a member of the Drama Club and has been a member of the volunteer fire department since the age of 15. After school, he works as a shift manager for McDonalds. Matthew is now attending Danville Community College enrolled in General Services and Fire Science. Matthew is determined to obtain a college degree even if it takes longer than usual. His career goal is to become a professional firefighter and a fire investigator. Back to Scholarships |
