Hannah Anthony
Hannah Anthony's dropped her off at North Iredell High School that morning, and she was expecting to see him again that afternoon at volleyball practice. But in the middle of fourth-period algebra class, Hannah was called to the office because of a family emergency. Later at the hospital emergency room, Hannah would learn that her father had been killed on the job. David Michael Anthony, a prison guard at Iredell Correctional Center, was guarding a work crew on Interstate 77 when he was hit by two wheels that broke off a tractor-trailer. He was killed instantly, becoming the eighth correctional office in North Carolina to be killed in the line of duty. Hannah Anthony, who is from Harmony, North Carolina, was 15 at the time. In 2006, she became the second North Carolina resident to receive a Kids' Chance scholarship to pay for schooling. The scholarship is valued at $4,500 annually, and it also applies retroactively. Hannah graduated from the Pharmacy School at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina in the spring of 2007. Back to Scholarships |
