Facts

Kids’ Chance of North Carolina makes a significant difference in the lives of affected North Carolina families by providing scholarship support to help eligible students pursue and achieve their higher education goals. Kids’ Chance of North Carolina, established in 2004, is one of many state programs offering scholarships to students in this situation. Kids' Chance of North Carolina appreciates the recognition and support of the North Carolina Industrial Commission as well as the many individual donors who have and continue to contribute to the funding of the scholarship program.

Kids’ Chance, Inc. was originally established in 1988 by the Workers' Compensation Section of the Georgia Bar. Today, Kids’ Chance programs have been organized in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington State and West Virginia. Additionally, volunteers from many other states have asked for start-up kits. The 5th National Kids' chance Conference was held in Baltimore in May of 2008 and a national federation called Kids' Chance of America is now in place. MISSION:
The mission of Kids’ Chance of North Carolina, Inc. is to provide educational scholarships to the children of North Carolina workers who have been catastrophically or fatally injured in work-related accidents.

FUNDING:
Kids' Chance of North Carolina, Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization. As each state funds its own programs, all funds raised in North Carolina are spent on North Carolina students. Scholarship funds come from donations by individuals, groups, organizations, foundations and medical, legal and other professionals. Other funds originate from special activities organized by volunteers such as Kids’ Chance of North Carolina Silent Auction and Kids' Chance of North Carolina Annual Golf Tournament. Thanks to the commitments of our Corporate Sponsors, 100% of donations are directed to scholarship grants for eligible applicants.

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED:
Kids' Chance of North Carolina awarded its first scholarship in August of 2005 and continues to award additional scholarships annually ( link to recipients page). Hundreds of scholarships have been awarded Nationwide.
