The North Carolina organization was formed in 2004 by professionals in the workers' compensation community, including lawyers, insurers, employers and medical and rehabilitation professionals. The nonprofit awards scholarships annually to students between the ages of 16 and 25 whose parent's on-the-job death or injury resulted in a substantial decline in family income.

Like us, you know how deeply family members can be affected by workplace injuries, both financially and emotionally. The impact of such injuries is long lasting. A family’s struggles and challenges don’t disappear once they obtain a verdict or a settlement or payment of their medical expenses. The financial impact can be life shattering. Kids' Chance of North Carolina is a nonprofit corporation that provides educational scholarships to the children of employees who have been seriously injured or killed as a result of a workers' compensation injury that is covered under the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act.

Kids' Chance of North Carolina will provide funds for these children to begin or continue their education at college or vocational school levels. This is to provide those students with educational opportunities that might otherwise have been postponed or interrupted as a result of the financial hardship caused by the death or serious injury of their parent.
